COVID-19 Updates

From Wednesday 3rd September 2020 HMP Barlinnie is temporarily closed to visitors due to the rise in COVID cases in Glasgow and surrounding areas.  A date for reopening is dependent on Government advice, keep checking the website for up to date information

Wednesday 1st April: you can now send money in to people in prison online You will need their name, date of birth and prison code – Barlinnie is BE

Families Outside Helpline is available Monday-Friday 9am – 5pm       call 0800 254 0088

 SPS has a Families Helpline available Monday – Friday 9am to 3pm   call 0131 330 3888 for general enquiries on prison life, there is also an FAQ section for families on the COVID Hub page


Mobile phones for prisoners

SPS are introducing a mobile telephony solution into prisons which will mean every prisoner will have access to a mobile telephone to enhance contact with family and friends during COVID-19 restrictions.

The Croft’s adapted service

The Croft is currently working remotely as face-to-face contact at HMP Barlinnie is suspended with COVID-19 restrictions. If you have any questions or want to speak to someone about having a loved one in prison, you can contact us on or phone 07484 664 950. We will be checking messages 7 days per week from 10.30am-6.30pm.

The Scottish Prison Service has a helpline available Monday – Friday 9am-3pm 0131 330 3888. They can give you information about general procedures, but cannot give out information about individual people in prison. SPS have also set up an Information Hub on their website.
